Has anyone here experimented with making their own scents of bath oil?
I've got some unscented grapeseed oil that I love, but I was getting tired of it wiping out the smells of my shower gels. I mean, what's the point of buying yummy smelling stuff if you don't get to smell it? So I went to the health store and bought some tangerine and lemongrass essential oils and just started adding them to my bath oil.
I seriously should've read up on some measurements or something first, though. Whew! I smell like a big lemon whenever I use that stuff! I tried adding some vanilla to see if that would calm it down a little, and I've at least convinced myself that it does.
But thankfully I'm almost out of the stuff now! So I thought I'd ask here for suggestions! (It's more fun than Googling. ) _________________ I'm feeling noodly tonight! *noodle noodle noodle* |

We had a course in Aromatherapy when I went to massage school. Unfortunately I was sick for that lesson v_v But! I went out and bought myself a mini-aromatherapy set at a bookstore (Barnes and Noble, I think) and I was set. The set came with a book on mixing, and 4 oils, a grapeseed oil base, tea tree oil, lavender essential oil, and eucalyptus oil. You can find sets like these all over the place and if you pay more than $30, you're getting ripped off. It's a nice starter, and if you want to get different essential oils, it's cool, cause you have the book which tells you how to blend correctly.
Anyway, from what I remember, you shouldn't put more than 12 drops total of your smell-good essential oils (Examples: 6 drops lavender, and 6 drops sandalwood, OR 4 rosemary, 4 bergamont, and 4 sweet orange.)
into 1oz of base oil (grapeseed oil and sweet almond oils are really nice, but even olive oil can make a nice base). This makes a really nice body oil which is perfect for massages and baths, or you can rub it on as a moisturizer/perfume.
DO NOT USE BABY OIL OR ANY OTHER PETROLEUM BASED OIL! Baby oil is a carcinogen, which means it causes cancer.
Also, you can add your essential oils directly to your bath, about 5-10 drops, depending on how stinky you want to be. |

I was mixing in a 4 oz bottle and I don't think I added even 10 drops, but I was just totally guessing on the mixture, so it came out smelling more like dish soap than something I really wanted to wear.
I s'pose getting a book would be a good idea. I just picked out a couple of smells I thought would be nice, plus they had stuff like "Energizing!" and "Inspiring!" written in their descriptions.
What the heck?!?! Baby oil is carcinogenic and they use it on BABIES??? D8 _________________ I'm feeling noodly tonight! *noodle noodle noodle* |
